Review | Hot Octopuss Pocket Pulse with Remote
The Gent and I already own the Pulse II Duo, and whist it has faults (more than I’d like in a toy), it’s a staple in our toy box. So, I was more than a little curious at Hot Octopuss’ latest model, the Pocket Pulse.
I really like the box. It’s definitely eye-catching – you’re not going to forget about it or leave it at the bottom of your toy box. For some reason I’m a sucker for the orange/gold colour, and, it’s shiny. I like anything shiny.
The first thing I noticed is that it’s much smaller than the previous model, and that’s a good thing – the Pulse II Duo is a handful!
The Pocket Pulse weighs 126g by itself, and with the remote 147g. The Pocket Pulse is made from soft silicone which makes it semi-flexible, and ABS plastic for the main body of the toy. This means it’s body safe, non-porous, and the plastic part doesn’t pick up fluff. Now, as you can see from the one picture the Gent didn’t edit for me, the soft silicone picks up fluff like nobody’s business. We don’t even have a pet, just lots of fluffy blankets! Whilst the toy is waterproof so you can leave it to air dry, it still somehow – maybe magically, picks up fluff. You’ve been warned.
I want to start out by saying that my opinions of the Pocket Pulse are overall positive. It’s a compact toy that the Gent and I can use for both partnered, and solo play, it’s easy for him to use, and I can control his pleasure via a handy remote. However, whilst I really like the toy in use, I can’t play around with it as much as I’d like.
Let’s start with the main thing I noticed – the buttons. The ones on the side of the toy are rather hard to press on this model – I prefer the buttons on the previous model as they were easier to press. Now, in an ideal world the buttons would either be bigger, or made from a different material – that would be a huge plus in the accessibility column for me. Also, I think if you could start the toy with the controller that would both add to the accessibility and would mean the thing didn’t start buzzing in your hand, and would allow for a completely hands free orgasm. Personally, I hate toys that buzz in my hand (thanks nerve problems), so I limit all contact between my hands and vibrators. If I wanted to surprise the Gent whilst he was tied up, I would have to get him to turn the Pocket Pulse on for me – not so much of a surprise then.
Although it doesn’t turn the toy on (maybe in a later model *crosses fingers*), I love the controller. It allows me to be in complete control of the speed, and ‘buzziness’ of the Pocket Pulse. There are now so many possibilities for me to lazily tease the Gent. For such a large controller the buttons could be bigger, seperate, and the symbols could be easier to distinguish – or even a different material like the buttons on the main toy.
The battery life is excellent. We were so eager to give the Pocket Pulse a go, we used it straight out of the box without even bothering to charge it first. It lasted for a good three days of intensive use before that inevitable mid-session disappointment.
As this is a toy aimed at those with a penis, it’s hard for me to comment on the sensation. However I can say from personal experience (and as you can see from the Gent’s comments below), it has the potential for orgasmic efficacy.
As it mentions on the website, it is lightweight, and easy to handle. But, it depends your definition of ‘lightweight’. Compared to the Pulse II Duo, it’s much lighter, however there’s still quite a bit of heft to the toy. Whilst some wrists might be able to handle it – if you’re unsure put 126g of rice or sugar in a bag and see how you feel.
One definite improvement over the Pulse II Duo is that it actually stays on the penis well, without twisting around – very useful if your hands can’t stand vibrations.
My last main negative point is that like the other Hot Octopuss toys it’s not a quiet toy. Whilst that doesn’t bother us too much, it might for others in shared accommodation, or with hearing sensitivities.
All the above being said, hands free penis stimulation toys are few and far between. So, an effective, reasonably priced, and reliable one is a welcomed addition to our toy box.
The Gent’s Opinion
As always, the Gent is and man of few words. The first word I coaxed out of him was ‘interesting’, the second was ‘intense’. Though, with the little sexual bribery I managed to turn that ‘intense’ into a sentence, and I happily quote “it gives quite an intense orgasm”. Maybe one day I’ll get full paragraph, but until then you’ll have to make do with my words. Sorry.
All told, we both prefer this to previous model. It’s easier to hold, it stays on the penis batter, and it’s not as heavy. It’s also very pretty darn good battery life, something quite useful when you want to tease your partner for hours on end.
At £69 – £75 (with the remote) it’s not cheap, but it’s a worthwhile investment. And, though I’ve mentioned a bunch of negatives here, if you’re looking for a vibrating penis stimulator that has the possibility of giving a hands free orgasm, you can’t go wrong.
Together (mostly the Gent’s opinion), we’d say it deserves an 7/10.
You can find The Pocket Pulse Remote from Hot Octopuss for £69.00 – £75.00.
